Regulations and legal provisions for the final exam in Pediatrics.
    Medical Faculty / English Division

    A.   Opening remarks and general arrangements

    1. The rules of the exam in Pediatrics are consistent with the Rules of Study and the Charter of the Medical University of Bialystok.
    2. Exam in Pediatrics on the 6th year is conceived to consist of two sequential sections: the test and oral exam. Students who have successfully accomplished their classes and have achieved all required credits are entitled to sit an exam. Positive evaluation and successful passing the test may subsequently qualify for the oral exam.
    3. Passing the written test is a prerequisite for further oral exam, however, the final note and positive evaluation of the entire exam in Pediatrics is derived from the two sections (graded assignment to the test, and the oral exam).

    B. The test

    1. The multiple-choice test is composed of 120 items, and is scheduled for 120 minutes (1 minute per question)
    2. The test questions include the whole content of the subject, and reflect all areas of pediatrics discussed and trained throughout the university course and curriculum, according to the syllabus for the study years 3rd to 6th.
    3. Unassisted performance of the test is strictly advised. During the final test, students are strongly advised to refrain from using any written materials, unauthorized electronic devices, mobile phones or multimedia. Moreover, students must not communicate verbally or non-verbally with persons other than the assistants. Contacting other fellow students during the test is not allowed. Any violations of these rules will be regarded as cheating and will result in failing of the test.
    4. The range and the set of test questions are prepared in a way reassuring objectivity. The lot is composed and mixed allowing more comfort and independence for individuals sitting side by side, so that the diversified sequence and order of answers are guaranteed.
    5. The outcome of the test is presumed positive in case the student has achieved at least 60% of correct answers (i.e., 72 scores). The results below 72 scores denominate failure of the entire exam, i.e., negative evaluation /unacceptable note/ in the first attempt.
    6. The results of the test are available and announced within the 3 weekdays from the date of the test. Commonly accepted form of publicizing is applied, thus, the policy and usual procedures of personal data protection is warranted in the announcement of the outcomes. Student is entitled to the inspection of his/her own exam form within 3 days after announcement of the results. Following this term, the insight into the works and exam papers will not be longer possible.
    7. Scoring and the range of notes from the written test are based on the criteria specified below:
      1. ≤71 points – unacceptable (fail =  2)
      2. 72 – 80 points – acceptable (passing grade = 3)
      3. 81 – 90 points – average (3.5)
      4. 91 – 100 points – good (4)
      5. 101 – 110 points – above good (4.5)
      6. 111 – 120 points – excellent (5)

    C. Oral exam in Pediatrics

    1. The assignment to the location of the oral exam (pediatric department), and the examiner are randomized. The drawing is carried-out in a convenient time in the presence of (an) eligible student representative(s). An appropriate information is publicized ahead of the test and announced in advance.
    2. Oral exam, being an integral part of the complete exam in Pediatrics, is held only upon achieving positive result of the test (i.e., more than 72 pts).
    3. Four questions are prearranged for the oral exam, including one mandatory question on interpretation of diagnostic investigations / laboratory studies, and/or imaging in pediatrics. The oral exam is conducted by the supervisors / heads of pediatric departments or nominees, i.e., appointed associate and assistant professors. The academic teacher’s signature (both student record book and/or electronic system; e-protocol) is the competence and exclusive responsibility of the examiner.
    4. The final grade of the exam in Pediatrics is the median resulting from the two parts of the exam (written and oral).

    D. Resit and principles for retake the exam

In case of failure, students are entitled to turn up for a resit, and retake the exam. Students who fail the exam, will be granted only one single opportunity to retake it. The modality and the date of the retake will be announced on the website without undue delay. Note: There will be no possibility to retake the test in any other term than that appointed in the special announcement. This exam consists of both the 120-item multiple-choice test and structured oral exam, and is based on the identical procedure as that in the first attempt.
