    CLINICAL CLASSESS AND SEMINARS

     

     

    STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE PREPARED FOR CLINICAL CLASSES (INCLUDING THE FIRST CLASSESS)!

    Detailed course description:

    Classes no. 1:

    1. Seminar 1: Management of pediatric acute gastroenteritis.
    2. Clinical classes: Diarrhea in children - diagnosis and treatment: oral rehydration therapy, intravenous therapy, management of metabolic acidosis and electrolyte imbalance.

     

    Classes no. 2:

    1. Seminar 2: Viral rash diseases in children (chickenpox, erythema infectiosum, erythema subitum, HSV infections, measles, HFMD)
    2. Clinical classes: Viral Infections in children: physical examination, differential diagnosis

     

    Classes no. 3:

    1. Seminar 3: Neuroinfections in children (enteroviruses, HSV, Listeria, purulent and fungal meningitis)
    2. Clinical classess: Neuroinfections in children: symptoms, workup, treatment. Lumbar puncture. Cerebrospinal fluid examination.

     

    Classes no. 4:

    1. Seminar 5: Bacterial rash diseases in children (GAS infections, Staphylococcal infections)
    2. Clinical classes: quiz - classic childhood skin exanthem

     

    Classes no. 5:

    1. Seminar 4: Parasitic disorders (toxoplasmosis, toxocariasis, ascariasis, oxyuriasis, giardiasis, scabies)
    2. Clinical classes: Pediatric parasitic infections: symptoms, workup, treatment.
    3. Credit

     

     

     

     

    LECTURES ON PEDIATRIC INFECTIOUS DISEASES

    1. Nosocomial infections in children.
    2. Prevention of hospital acquired infections – hand hygiene, types of isolation.
    3. Emerging pediatric infectious diseases.
    4. Traveling with children.
    5. Invasive meningococcal and pneumococcal diseases
    6. Tick-borne diseases: Lyme disease, Tick Borne Encephalitis  (TBE)
    7. Pertussis in vaccinated and unvaccinated children.
    8. Influenza and viral acute respiratory infections in children. Pediatric tuberculosis.
    9. Lymphadenopathy in children. Infectious mononucleosis.
    10. Pediatric HIV infection, prevention of mother-to-child transmission
