About 1,5 million PLN cost a new endoscopy lab opened on February 26th, at the University Children's Clinical Hospital in Bialystok. It will accelerate better access to research and diagnosis. The upper and lower gastrointestinal tract examinations will be performed there. The laboratory moved from the 5th to the 1st floor. It is equipped with the latest medical equipment and it is located in two spacious rooms. According to the head of the Department of Paediatrics, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nutrition and Allergology, prof. Dariusz Lebensztejn, the examinations will be more comfortable for small patients. Modern anesthesia equipment was also purchased.

Last year, over 770 endoscopic gastrointestinal examinations in children were performed in the Clinic and now it will be possible to examine patients. Director of the hospital, prof. Anna Wasilewska said that the endoscopy laboratory is very important, because it will allow to quickly diagnose whether the child has swallowed an object. The most dangerous are, however, swallowed batteries that can be life-threatening. This problem has intensified in recent years. Intestinal diseases, celiac disease, intestinal bacterial flora disorders are also becoming more and more challenging. It is related to lifestyle and food. Professor Lebensztejn added that the laboratory will also do liver biopsies.

Money for renovation and purchase of equipment comes from EU funds.
