b) Examinations: English Language and Subject-Specific
The oral examination in the subject area comprises three questions, including an evaluation of the scientific value of the proposed work and the feasibility of its implementation based on the submitted research project. Each question is graded separately.
The oral English language examination consists of three parts assessing:
- The ability to actively engage with popular scientific literature in English.
- The ability to initiate and maintain a conversation about the candidate's career and research path.
- Proficiency in grammatical structures.
A single overall grade is assigned for the English examination.
Grading Scale for Examinations: very good (5), good plus (4.5), good (4.0), satisfactory (3.5), sufficient (3), insufficient (2).
The examination regulations are outlined in Appendix No. 3 to the Resolution.
Candidates holding a language certificate at a minimum B2 level may be exempt from the English examination (in such cases, an automatic grade of "Very Good (5)" is awarded).

Associate Professor Andrzej Eljaszewicz | Airway remodeling and fibrosis in the lower respiratory tract are central processes underlying many chronic lung diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). This research project will concentrate on the molecular and cellular mechanisms driving tissue remodeling in the airways and identify potential therapeutic targets. The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to: • Study the interactions between epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells in the context of inflammation and tissue remodeling. • Utilize advanced methods, including 3D cell cultures, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, western blot, modulation of gene expression, and RNAseq • Integrate data from in vitro, animal, and human sample studies to better understand translational aspects of airway remodeling research. • Explore potential biomarkers and mechanisms that could facilitate early diagnosis and the development of innovative therapeutic strategies. The project aims to deepen our understanding of lower airway biology while bridging the gap between basic and clinical research. We seek a motivated and creative PhD candidate eager to contribute to an interdisciplinary scientific environment. Ready for this scientific journey deep into the lungs?
