Background
Mr. Ahsan Hameed completed his Master’s degree in “Food Science and Technology” at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. After a short period spent working in quality control/quality assurance and corporate sector of a leading Asian food manufacturing company, Mr. Ahsan Hameed joined the School of Agricultural Engineering and Food Science, Shandong University of Technology, P. R. China. He got the opportunity to work in two labs, namely The Centre of Excellence for Microbial Lipids and Lab for Yeast Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, where he was an active participant pursuing new and ongoing projects.
Research Interests
As of 2019, Mr. Ahsan is working as an Early Stage Researcher (in a Marie Skłodowska-Curie co-funded research project) with Assoc. Professor Michał Ciborowski, PhD, at the Laboratory for Metabolomics, Clinical Research Centre, Medical University of Bialystok, Poland. His main research interests lie in such areas as using cutting edge “nutri-omics” approaches in personalized nutrition, alternative precision medicines/biomedicines/phytomedicine for individualized therapeutics. Screening, characterization, in-vitro, in-vivo bioactivity analysis and applicative assessment of novel functional foods/nutraceuticals/(marine) microbial/plant based bioactive compounds as well as cell culture and animal modelling, microbial biotechnology, modelling of microbial fermentation, stress metabolism, advanced analytical (bio)chemistry techniques etc.
Mr. Ahsan is currently working on checking the health effects of a certain range of novel functional foods/nutraceuticals/herbal formulas and (marine) microbe/plant based screened bioactive compounds on biomarkers of contemporary lifestyle diseases (T2DM, obesity, CVD, CKD). Mr. Ahsan has published more than 12 peer-reviewed scientific papers in reputable journals and authored one chapter. The research team at the Laboratory of Metabolomics is currently collaborating with various international universities/labs and is still open for further partnerships in new and ongoing projects.
